Love with Intention: Living out Christ-centred love all year round

February is often called the month of love, but the love celebrated on Valentine’s Day is only one expression of a much deeper and richer truth. The ultimate love is Agape — the unconditional love of Christ. His love is the source and model for every form of love we experience and express.

Rather than limiting love to one day, we are invited to practise love with intention every day of the year. By reflecting on the four Greek types of love — Storge, Eros, Philia, and Agape. We can cultivate healthier relationships and anchor our hearts in God’s design for love.

One of the most powerful ways to keep love intentional is through what surrounds us.

When scripture, devotional reflections, and faith-inspired artwork fill our homes, they quietly remind us of the deep love we carry and are called to live out.

Understanding the four types of Biblical love

The Bible reveals love as more than emotion — it is commitment, action, and character.

The four Greek words for love help us see this clearly.

  1. Storge: family affection

  2. Eros: romantic and marital love

  3. Philia: friendship and community love

  4. Agape: selfless, divine love

Each form of love reflects God’s heart in a different way. By focusing on them intentionally, we grow in spiritual maturity and relational health.

Storge: Strengthening love in the home

Storge is the natural affection shared between family members. It grows through familiarity, patience, and shared life. This love is expressed in everyday acts like through meals together, forgiveness after conflict, and time spent listening.

To nurture Storge, it helps to make your home a place of spiritual reminder. A framed verse in the kitchen, a devotional book on the coffee table, or a piece of art depicting God’s faithfulness becomes a gentle call to love well.

When frustration arises, a visible scripture can redirect your heart. Love becomes intentional when we choose kindness and patience, even in ordinary moments. Find these daily reminders in our online shop and transform your home into a place where faith and family grow together.

Eros: Honouring romantic love with God at the centre

Eros refers to romantic and passionate love within marriage. It includes emotional closeness, physical intimacy, and covenant commitment. Scripture shows that this love is not separate from faith — it is sacred when rooted in Christ.

Marriage thrives when couples remember that love is a choice, not just a feeling. Small acts of intention like words of affirmation, gratitude, prayer together, and shared devotionals strengthen emotional and spiritual unity.

Make your bedroom a sanctuary with faith-inspired scatter cushions, throws and art pieces that create a space of love. Your shared space can gently reinforce God’s design for marriage. A verse about love or unity serves as a reminder that romantic love is meant to reflect Christ’s sacrificial care and faithfulness.

When couples keep God’s word visible in their relationship, Eros becomes purposeful.

Philia: Building community through intentional friendship

Philia is the love of friendship, which is rooted in trust, loyalty, and shared values. It is expressed through encouragement, honesty, and presence. Friendships flourish when they are grounded in humility and care for others.

Devotional reading and scripture reflection shape how we relate to friends. A verse about compassion, forgiveness, or humility displayed in a living space helps align our attitudes with God’s heart. A gift from you to them in God’s word is also a subtle reminder of the years of friendship and memories created.

Whether hosting friends or simply praying for them, intentional friendship reflects Christ’s love through everyday connection.

Agape: Living out God’s unconditional love

Agape is the highest form of love. It is love of the selfless, sacrificial love God shows to humanity. It puts others before self and reflects faith through action.

This love is strengthened through spiritual disciplines like prayer, scripture reading, and reflection. A daily devotion placed where you will see it—beside your bed or on a desk—keeps God’s love central to your decisions.

True Agape love shows itself through generosity, service, forgiveness, and compassion. These acts become easier when our environment continually points us back to Christ.

The character of love according to scripture

The well-known description of love in 1 Corinthians 13 describes love as patient, kind, humble, and enduring. This passage becomes a spiritual mirror.

Ask yourself:

  • Is your love patient at home?

  • Is it kind in friendship?

  • Is it faithful in marriage?

  • Is it selfless toward others?

With daily reminders and items that surrounding you with faith, these questions stay close to your heart. Love becomes something we practise, not just admire.

Devotions, scripture, mugs, scatter cushions, throws and meaningful artwork or apparel, are more than items that full your home or make you look pretty. They shape the atmosphere of a home and the posture of the heart.

A verse on the wall reminds us to forgive. A devotional on the table reminds us to pray. A piece of faith-inspired art reminds us that God’s love is constant.

These visible expressions of faith help carry the message of Christ’s love far beyond Valentine’s Day. They make love something we see, remember, and live out all year long.

Love shaped by God.
Love shaped by God.

Love with intention, is love shaped by Christ.

It is practised in families, marriages, friendships, and service. It is nurtured through prayer, scripture, and daily reminders of God’s presence.

This season of love is an invitation not just to celebrate romance, but to cultivate every kind of love God designed. When we surround ourselves with His word and truth, love becomes a way of life.

Let your home reflect the love you carry. Let your relationships reflect the love you receive. And let every season remind you that Christ’s love is the foundation of all true love.
